Idea & Inspiration
To continue my overall theme for this semester I chose to elaborate further on my band days. Amy was kind enough to set the stage for an interview and I supplemented this video with footage of me playing the drums as well as the guitar.
Design influences began with YouTube videos of some of my favorite musicians talking about their experiences throughout their career. I always found these videos to be uplifting and motivating. I wanted to create some sort of biography that I could look back on in the years to come. Also, if my music were to ever inspire any other artist, I want to give back to the music community that gave me so much, especially at a young age. The experiences that I had during those times shaped who I am today and I want to share those with anyone who has the same passion for music that I do.
One factor that held precedence was that I wanted to include my love of music in the video. By showing my passion through playing I felt that I could inspire others to feel love for music as much as I do.
Design Process/Technical Detail
The design was pretty simple with this video. I began by recording clips of myself playing the guitar as well as the drums. The actual audio of the video came in later as I attempted to match the visuals with stories from my band days.
For technical detail I kept it pretty simple. I used the dip to white video transition after the initial setting of Amy and I in the beginning. I then pieced together the video clips that were taken in an attempt to match what I was saying in the audio. My hope is to add some original music in the background. That will come in the final draft of this project.
The last piece was to add the ending credit with the title button as well as a dip to black after the last clip.
I would like to take this project even further by adding in photos of myself back in the day so that the audience can get a feel for what I did.
I used my iPhone 7 for the recordings as well as my Microsoft Surface.

Hi Taylor,
I enjoyed watching your video, I think the topic of your video suits your blog very well. I noticed how much effort and time went into making sure that the video flowed well. I think that since the video is about a musician and he is even playing instruments while being interviewed that it would be nice to hear his music playing in the background or at some other point in the video clip.
I don’t know if you would be able to squeeze in a little bit more information about the artist you interviewed but it would be nice to know a little more information on who he is. Another thing I noticed was at the opening sequence, the video seems to shake as if it needs to be adjusted in some way.
All in all, you did a great job on your draft, after some small editing, you will have a great final project.

Hi Taylor. Overall, very strong work here. The video story draft tells a compelling story, with some background video to pique the interest of the viewer. One suggestion I have is to add some of the music to your video, so the viewers can hear how the music sounds. I understand you have interview audio, but maybe it would be possible to play your music softly under the sounds of your interview. I don’t know, maybe you could play with that in Premiere and see if it works out. I like how you explained in your video your past experiences, and how you played music on the local Everett radio station. Your interview was interesting, and I like how Amy interviewed you for the piece. Another suggestion I would have is to add some titles or credits, that would make the piece even more polished. All in all, you’re absolutely on the right track and I can’t wait to see the final product.

Hi all,
Thank you for the feedback, even with a small group this round, it was very valuable. The most requested item in the feedback was to add some of the original music to the video. This is entirely possible and, although it may not be the original tracks due to being unsure about inserting tracks with lyrics in the video, adding instrumental tracks in the background for effect and coherence. From the feedback, it seems that it was not necessarily apparent who the musician in the video being interviewed is and adding a title on screen to the first section to identify the interviewer and interviewee may be a good means in clarifying the situation. The first section of the video has an issue that needs to be resolved in the final project, it flickers at the beginning and it seems there is an issue with the rendering. I may look to add some pictures from the original bands from press releases and photo shoots to help emphasize the difference between the bands being referenced to help the viewer differentiate between the points being made in the interview.
